Steel is an alloy made from iron, carbon and a combination of different elements depending on the properties required. There are several distinct grades of steel that have unique chemical compositions based on the different amounts of carbon and added alloys. When determining the type of steel that you want to buy, it is important to know there are four different types of steel that are classified based on their chemical structure and physical properties: carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, and tool steels. Each of these types can be further sub-classified into different types. TYPES OF STEELCarbon SteelCarbon steel grayish blue in appearance and is vulnerable to corrosion. Carbon steel contain other alloys, such as manganese and silicon. There are three main types of carbon steel: low carbon steel, medium carbon steel, and high carbon steel. Low carbon steel is the most common and typically contains less than . 30% of carbon. Medium carbon steel contains up to . 60% of carbon as well as manganese and is much stronger than low carbon steel. High carbon steel contains up to 1. 5% carbon steel and can often be hard to work with. Alloy SteelAlloy steels are a mixture of several metals, including nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. Alloy steels tend to be costlier than carbon steel and are used in mechanical work, car parts, pipelines, and motors. The strength and property of alloy steels depends on... --- Hardened and Tempered Steel Round Bar Hardening and tempering is a heat-treatment process for high-quality steel round bars to give them necessary properties as required. It is a two-stage heat treatment process consisting of Quenching and Tempering. Stage 1 : Quenching / Hardening The first stage consists of hardening, in which the round bar is austenitized to approximately 900°C depending on the grade and then quickly cooled. The material is water-quenched or oil quenched or solvent quenched in a quench unit. Stage 2 : Tempering It consists of tempering the material to obtain the desired material properties. The material is then straightened. Material is tested to check if it meets requirement. Quenching and tempering achieves an extremely fine-grained and homogeneous microstructure. They are also called QT bars. QT steel bars are characterized by high strength and good ductility. We can provide you Quenched and Tempered Bars of grades such as SAE4140, etc. For details contact Mr Apurv Gupta on +91 9004064570. Lesser‑Known Insights 1. Microstructure BenefitsWhen heat treated correctly, 4140 steel’s tempered martensite microstructure minimises internal stresses, reducing the likelihood of unexpected warping during CNC machining or under fluctuating loads. This property is particularly valuable in industries such as aerospace and oil & gas, where component failure risk must be near zero. 2. Stability During Further ProcessingUnlike many hardened steels, properly tempered 4140 remains dimensionally stable during nitriding, induction hardening, or stress relieving. This makes it a go‑to choice for precision, high‑load components that require post‑heat‑treatment surface enhancements without distortion.... --- STEEL VIDEOS Some steel videos to get a better understanding of some concepts of steel BRIEF EXPLANATION ON ROLLING https://youtu. be/6xnKmt_gsLs info --- Kindly find the links below to find other info on this website. There are certain elements required in the very formation of steel apart from iron (Fe). Following are the elements normally added to steel ALUMINIUM – AlUsed to deoxidize steel and control grain size with additions up to around 0. 05 wt. percent. Grain size control is accomplished by the formation of a fine dispersion of aluminium nitride precipitates, which restricts austenite grain growth. Aluminium can be added at higher levels as an effective nitride former in nitriding steels. BORON – BUsually added between 0. 0005-0. 003 wt. percent to significantly increase the hardenability, especially for low carbon alloys. It does not affect the strength of ferrite, and therefore has little effect on ductility, formability or machinability in the annealed or soft state. CALCIUM – CaUsed in certain steels to control the composition, type, shape, size and distribution of oxide and/or sulphide inclusions. Benefits may include improved ductility, impact strength and/or machinability. Ca can also be added to improve castability. CARBON – CThe most important alloying element which is essential for the formation of cementite, graphite, pearlite, spheriodite, bainite, and iron-carbon martensite. Strength, hardness, hardenability, and ductile-to-brittle transition temperature are increased with increasing carbon content up to approximately 0. 60 percent. Toughness and ductility of steels are decreased with increasing carbon content. The maximum achievable hardness level of a martensitic steel is a function of carbon content only, with hardness level increasing with carbon... --- EN1A FREE CUTTING STEEL EN1A is a very popular grade of low carbon-manganese free cutting steel, which is most suitable for the manufacture of repetition turned components, such as nuts, bolts, hydraulic fittings and studs, particularly where intricate drilling and machining operations are involved. En1a is also available as En1a leaded (En1aPb) for greater machinability. Swarf will form in small chips to prevent machine blockage. EN1aNL steel is a non-leaded Re-Sulphurised Free Machining Steel. This is a premium grade of free cutting steel. It has excellent machinability. It is suitable for case hardening and electroplating. We can provide you with free cutting steel both in the black and bright cold drawn bar form. Applications of En1a Steel En1a steels are suitable for applications where good machinability is the prime consideration. Because of this, they are used for the rapid production on single or multiple spindle automatic lathes and capstan lathes of finely finished components which will not be subjected to high stresses in service, e. g. light duty studs, cycle components and many intricate parts for textile and printing machinery. This type of steel cannot be relied upon to possess good transverse properties and should not be used for hollow parts which might be subjected to an internal pressure which would set up wall stresses dangerously near to the transverse yield stress. Case hardening can be carried out but... --- Why Choose Us for Your Alloy Steel Bar Needs Why Choose Us for Alloy Steel Bars At Ambhe Ferro Metal Processors Private Limited, we understand that the success of your manufacturing operations hinges on the quality of materials you use. This process involves heating the steel to a high temperature, then rapidly cooling it. This causes the surface of the steel to harden, while the interior remains relatively soft. The case-hardening process also allows for greater control over the hardness of the steel, as different amounts of elements can be added to achieve different levels of hardness. This means that 20MnCr5 steel can be used in a wide range of applications, from gears and shafts to other mechanical components that need to be strong and durable. This steel is carburising steel used for components requiring high wear resistance surface, coupled with tough cores to resist shock loads and strength to give large service... --- ASTM A350 LF2 STEEL FOR FORGINGS AND PIPE FITTINGS A350 LF2 is a low-carbon alloy steel that is commonly used in the manufacture of flanges, fittings, valves, and other piping components. The material is known for its strength, toughness, and ductility, making it suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications. The chemical composition of A350 LF2 steel includes elements such as carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulphur. One of the critical properties of A350 LF2 steel is its low carbon content, which allows for good weldability and reduces the risk of cracking. The material also has a relatively high tensile strength and yield strength, making it suitable for use in applications that require high levels of strength and durability. Additionally, A350 LF2 steel has good impact resistance and can withstand high temperatures without losing strength. A350 LF2 steel is commonly used in the oil and gas industry for the manufacture of flanges, fittings, valves, and other piping components that are used in high-pressure and high-temperature applications. The material is also used in the power generation industry to manufacture boilers and pressure vessels. The manufacturing of A350 LF2 steel typically involves a process of casting, followed by hot rolling, annealing, and normalizing as per the requirements of end users. The material is then cooled and tempered to achieve the desired mechanical properties. The steel is then inspected and tested to meet the required specifications. A350 LF2 steel is available in various forms, including plates, sheets, bars, and tubes. The material can be... --- Free Cutting Steel Free Cutting Steel also called Free Machining Steels are steels which are easy to machine. The machinability of the material is increased as the chips are broken in small pieces when machined thus avoiding their entanglement in the machinery. This enables automatic run of the equipment without human interaction. Free cutting steels with lead also allow for higher machining rates. As a thumb rule, free cutting steel normally costs 20% to 30% more than the standard steel. However this is made up by increased machining speeds, larger cuts, and longer tool life. In turning, milling and drilling operations commonly known as machining operations, deformation/welding of the tool/work piece interface occurs rather than chip formation. During the machining operations surface finish is impaired, cutting temperature increased and tool life reduced significantly. A large ‘built-up edge’ is formed on the tool tip at very low sulfur contents. This requires frequent dressing or changing of tools, reduced productivity and higher costs. The term machinability is characterized by the following three parameters. 1. Speed of machining2. Surface finish of the machined components3. Tool life of the cutting tools employed for machining operation. The term machinability relates to the ease and cost of achieving a production schedule for machined parts. It deals with consistent production of machined components which are able to satisfy product property specifications and in service performance requirements, at minimum through cost. Machinability can be measured in terms of surface finish, chip form, tool life, power consumption, and production... --- Hot Rolled Steel Flat Bars are of rectangular cross-section used in a lot of engineering items, machined components, etc. They are popularly made in Mild Steel and Carbon Steel.
