1018 STEEL

Comprehensive Guide to 1018 Steel Bars: Your Versatile Companion in Engineering and Construction

1018 steel bars, renowned for their low-carbon composition, stand as a cornerstone in the realms of construction, manufacturing, and machinery fabrication. The designation ‘1018’ signifies its specific chemical makeup, featuring approximately 0.18% carbon and 0.8% manganese, alongside trace amounts of phosphorus and sulfur. This unique composition imbues 1018 steel bars with a suite of properties tailored for diverse applications, setting a benchmark in versatility and performance.

1018 steel bars have several properties that make them suitable for various applications. They have a relatively low carbon content, which gives them good ductility and formability. They also have good machinability, meaning they can be easily cut, drilled, and machined to meet specific requirements. Additionally, 1018 steel bars have good weldability, making them suitable for welding and other fabrication processes.

One of the main applications of 1018 steel bars is in construction. They are often used in the manufacturing of bridges, buildings, and other structures, as well as in the construction of pipelines and other infrastructure. They are also commonly used in the manufacturing of machinery and equipment, particularly in the automotive and aerospace industries.

1018 steel bars are also commonly used to manufacture gears, shafts, and other precision parts. Due to their good machinability and weldability, they are well-suited for these applications. They are also used in the manufacturing of fasteners, such as bolts and screws, and in the production of wire and other steel forms.

In terms of cost, 1018 steel bars are relatively inexpensive compared to other types of steel, due to their low carbon content and simple manufacturing process. They are widely available and can be easily sourced from various suppliers.

Hot Rolled 1018 Steel Bars provides good formability, weldability and machinability. Since it has higher manganese than commercial quality and AISI 1020, it offers better carburising properties. The mechanical properties of hot rolled AISI 1018 carbon steel round bars are higher than commercial quality steel round bar. It has the right mix of properties of strength, ductility and hardness for many applications.

Mild Steel is used in mechanical engineering applications for parts that will not be subject to high stress.

SAE1018 Cold Drawn Round Bright Bar

It can be easily cold drawn for better tolerance and properties. When in its bright cold drawn condition the steel is able to endure higher levels of stress, particularly on smaller diameters.

Compared to normal Mild Steel, bright Mild Steel provides tighter sectional tolerances, increased straightness, and a much cleaner surface. The main advantage of cold drawn 1018 steel is that Steel can be brought closer to the finished machine size, providing reduces machining costs. Another benefit of bright Steel bars is a marked increase in physical strength over hot rolled bars of the same section.

It can be easily manufactured and thus saves on cost.

Various processes and process parameters affects the properties of the steel eg temperature of rolling, cold drawing, etc. By drawing of steel after hot rolling machinability can be considerably improved.

APPLICATIONS
Typical applications of 1018 steel round bars include gears, bright bars, pins, studs, bolts, farm implements, industrial machinery & other similar applications.

Testing and Packaging

Testing and packaging are considered one of the most critical steps of the manufacturing process.

We do several tests and inspections to check the quality of our 1018 steel round and 1018 hexagon bar. Tests done depend on the requirement of the users. Those quality tests can include chemical composition test, physical test, visual inspection, macro and micro test, NDT test and ultrasonic test depending on the requirement of the customers. We can also arrange a third-party inspection if required. A test certificate is given for each consignment for the tests conducted.

At last, we bundle or pack the 1018 round and 1018 hexagon bar to prevent damage at the time of transportation.
